Vintage Silver Tone Covered Butter Dish, Rope Edge Butter Server, Lidded Tableware
This vintage covered butter dish turns one of the simplest things on the table into something worth bringing out for dinner. A rectangular serving base is finished with a deeply textured rope border, while the softly domed lid is topped with a small twisted finial for lifting.
The silver-tone finish has developed plenty of character over time, with darkened edges, spotting and variation that give the piece the wonderfully imperfect look of old tableware that has actually been used.
Sized for a traditional stick of butter, it’s an easy addition to the breakfast table, holiday dinner, or a collection of mismatched old silver—and considerably nicer than setting the butter wrapper on the table.
Condition: Vintage condition with substantial patina and signs of previous use, including darkening, spotting, oxidation, scratches, discoloration and areas of finish wear. The interior and underside also show age-related wear. The piece has been left with its aged finish rather than polished bright. Please review photographs closely for condition.
No maker or metal-content mark has been identified, so this piece is described conservatively as silver-tone rather than sterling or silverplate.
Vintage pieces have lived a life before arriving here. Small imperfections, variations and signs of age are part of their story.
